Hpa-An Silk Factoy

CONCEPT

“Hpa-An Silk Factory” is a silk workshop in Karen State, Myanmar.
The workshop serves women from ethnic minorities with vocational training and job placement assistance.
We make “zaguri raw silk,” which is hand spun slowly, and “kakumawen,” which is formed by spreading cocoons one by one and stacking them uniformly.
Cotton handspun yarn,” made from square cotton and colored using local natural bounties like mango, jackfruit, and butterfly peas.
Hand weaving on a primitive loom known as a jack-o-lantern loom.
Our arts have evolved throughout time, from cocoons to threads, dyeing, and weaving.
We have inherited the traditional handcrafts of Japan that are being lost, and we also make the most of local traditions and the blessings of nature.
Through “silk,” we help to gently connect makers and users.
